3 Ways to be a Good Steward of Your Body

In a recent poll about what was most important to people concerning their wellness, overwhelmingly being a good steward of your body was the top vote-getter. Not surprisingly, this was the case.

We have all heard all our lives that our bodies are a temple, take care of it. Even so, we sometimes forget that maxim, me included. Sometimes when I drive by Popeye's Fried Chicken or my favorite Taco stand, I am tempted to drive in and get just one fried chicken leg or just one taco.

However, the spinach salad that is awaiting me at home or the organic homemade soups that my wife is famous for awaits so I choose that route instead. Does anyone else fight those internal temptations like me? I think it is a common struggle.

Being as we all must pay attention to these temples which is the only one we've got, there are some mindsets and directions we must follow to accomplish the goal of being a good steward to these bodies.

1.Make a Plan to Be Fit

Yes, we have to start by talking about physical fitness. Even though we all conjure up visions of sweaty socks and stinky locker rooms from our high school days, there was a reason we were all forced to attend a PE class in school. Some power that be whoever and whenever it was decided that school children had to move to succeed in school. The same is true as adults today. Movement is the mantra today all over social media and with any and all health coaches and successful people from all walks of life.

2. Stay Positive

Instead of dwelling on what we don't have or have lost, let's be grateful and thankful for what we do have currently. I, after going through some major health challenges in 2020 had to come to grips that I have to do things differently and in some cases dramatically differently. Like, I can no longer eat ice cream or dairy since my lactose intolerance is so negatively pronounced now especially at my age. Almond milk is my new friend and I have grown to love it. After the health challenge, I have become more grateful than ever that God gave me a second chance and I'm starting my days with my gratitude journal and positive affirmations each day now. It is enjoyable and refreshing beyond what I could have ever imagined. Try it! You might actually like it.

3. Feed Your Body The Right Foods

Often I come across people who are obsessed with their vehicles and the care for them. A family member scolded me recently for the type of oil I had in my car as a replacement for my own car. My own father and grandfather were the same way regarding their trucks or farm equipment. All the while, eating fatty foods and carbs galore in huge proportions. I paid the price for following in their footsteps, but no more! Lots of green leafy vegetables, plenty of apples, pears, and bananas now along with healthy nuts and grains. Not only has my cholesterol dropped drastically but my energy levels are through the roof.

Finally, be also open to explore alternative medicines and modalities as well as new native technologies. Especially the technologies that are native to your body. I'm speaking about the ones that are God-given at birth that might diminish as you age after puberty and can be affected by stress, the environment and other factors as well. Just be open-minded to investigate any and all avenues for optimal health!
